Student Selection Process

  • Students who live in Wayne, Oakland or Macomb Counties and attend public, private, Parochial or charter schools.

Students who are in grades 9-11.

  • Students who are involved in extra-curricular activities; volunteer work and organizations in their school, church or community.
  • Students who have exhibited leadership and held leadership positions in their school church or community organizations.
  • Students who are in good academic standing.
  • Students who have been nominated by their school counselor, principal, Teacher, mentor, minister or community leader.

Application Process

  • The nomination form should be printed or typed and must be filled out completely. Faxed copies will not be accepted. Email copies will be accepted.
  • Additional information should be attached to nomination form.

Notification Process

  • Students will be informed of their selection by telephone and/or U.S. mail. Please Note: There is no money attached to the Community Service and Leadership Award. Students will receive a Certification of Recognition.
  • Letters of “Congratulations” will be sent, to recipients of the Community Service and Leadership Award. Detailed information regarding the Metro Detroit Youth Day Awards Ceremony will be included in the letter.

Award Process

  • Students will be presented with their Community Service and Leadership Award Certificate of Recognition at the opening ceremony for the Annual Metro Detroit Youth Day at Belle Isle Park. Event information will be included in the letter.

Purpose: To recognize students in the Detroit Metropolitan Area who have been recommended for their dedication to community service and outstanding leadership.
