Ed Deeb Legacy

Building on a legacy of inclusion and access.

Founder & Chairman Emeritus of Metro Detroit Youth Day that led the event on Belle Isle for 41 years (1981-2025), culminating with President George H.W. Bush presenting him with the 477th Point of Light Award for his involvement and inspiration to the young people of Detroit in this role.

  • Launched in 1981 to channel young people's energy into positive, constructive activities.
  • Engaged 2.5+ million youth over its 41-year history.
  • Grew from 1,100 participants in year one to thousands annually, supported by 1,000+ volunteers and hundreds of organizations and businesses.
  • Includes sports clinics, motivational speakers, college scholarships, career workshops, nutrition tips, fitness drills and carnival games.

"After a thorough search for a new partner to lead the event, it quickly became clear that BGCGD checked all the boxes for what we were looking for in a new event manager. My father would be very proud to know the event and his legacy will live on for years to come in very capable hands."

— George Deeb
